Irene Llorca, Emma Calvo & José Guerrero, three creatives from Spain, started the world’s first museum for art born during the pandemic, The Covid Art Museum
The COVID-19 crisis has brought multiple constraints for cultural venues and events, such as concerts and museums. And yet, perhaps more significantly, many people seem to have learned to appreciate art and creative work more deeply during the crisis.
Whether it was the popular balcony concerts, street art or powerful photography projects on social media, creators around the world were bringing people together while navigating and expressing the myriad moods of the pandemic.
Seeking to document this flourishing of creative work so that it would not fall into oblivion, Irene Llorca, Emma Calvo & José Guerrero created The Covid Art Museum (CAM) via the project’s instagram account.
Launched on March 19, 2020, the virtual museum now features more than 880 pieces of creative work produced within, and as a response to, the COVID-19 era. From paintings and photographs to digital art, installations and poems from all over the world, this extensive repository of creative expressions evidence the need that many people felt to navigate this time guided by their creative work.
The Covid Art Museum itself has become both a statement about the importance of preserving these creations, and yet another striking example of a novel project born out of the crisis.
